FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - HOW THE FORUM WORKS !

THINGS TO DO AFTER ENTERING THE FORUM

1>> Post Your introduction
Just entered the place?? Post your introduction. This is the first and foremost thing to do. Let other members at Desi-Underground know that u have arrived. Get yourself known. Just go into the Introduction Forum and post your introduction.
How to start a new topic for posting the intro can be found out below.

You must know the DO's and DONT's of the forum. You can find the Rules and Regulations Here. Read the rules carefully and remember them


3>>Know your personal area at the board
You have your own personal area at the board from where u can send and recieve personal messages or PMs.
You can find it Here
When you Click on the Profile link you get before you your control panel.
There are several things that you can do in your control panel and they are listed on the left of the page.Check out the various links and what they do.


5>>Your personal assistant
At the top right of the page u can find a link to My Assistant This is a window which provides links to some common tasks here at the forum.

Why can't I log in?
Have you registered? Seriously, you must register in order to log in. Have you been banned from the board? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact the webmaster or board administrator to find out why. If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the board administrator -- they may have incorrect configuration settings for the board.



Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you log in, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc.


What are Announcements?
Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. Whether or not you can post an announcement depends on the permissions required, which are set by the administrator.


What are Pinned topics?
Pinned topics appear below any announcements in the forum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements its the board administrator or the supermodz who make a topic pinned.


What are Closed topics?
Closed topics are set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator. You cannot reply to closed topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be closed for many reasons



What are Moderators??
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) whose job it is to look after the running of the forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.

BASICS !

1) Signature
A signature is something which will be appended at the bottom of each post u make at the board. It can contain both images and Text. You can customize your signature in your control panel by clicking the Edit Signature link. See the control panel image above to locate the link.




2) Avtaar
Avtaar is an image which will be diaplyed at the top left of each of your posts. You can customize your avtaar by clicking on the edit avtaar settings link in your control panel. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 100 KB.The following file types are allowed: gif,jpg,jpeg,png.


3) Thread/Topic
A thread is a topic started by someone, where the starter expresses his views or the info he wants to share in the very first post and then the viewers of the topic post their replies in the subsequent posts. Each post has the Signature and Avtaar along with the comments of the person who posted it. Each sub forum has the links to the threads contaied in it on the first page from where the user can enter any thread he wishes to. The thread link also tells the total number of pages in the thread and the link to the last post.


4) Pol'
A poll is a special type of thread where u can ask the viewers of the thread to vote for the options decided by you at the time of the poll creation. When the viewer first comes to your thread he can c the options and can vote. Once he has voted, he is presented with the results of the polling so far done.



5) Chatbox
Chatbox is the place where you can instantly express youe views and can make other members look at it. Its is displayed at the top of each page.



6) PM
A PM or a Personal message is the message u send to any other member at Desi-Underground. You can send PM by Going to your control panel and then click on the link Compose new message. or there is a pmsg button under the post of every member , just click that one.
LEARN HOW TO

1) Create your own avtaar
You can upload an exisiting imge from ur comp as ur avtaar. Just go to the control panel and click on edit your avtaar settings. This link will take you to the page where u can customize ur avtaar.

[b]2) Create your own signature
Creating signature is a bit different from the avtaar method. To insert an image into ur signature u have to provide a link to the image on the web. You can also upload ur image and then paste the link. Image uploading is explained below. You can manage ur signature by clicking the edit signature link in your control panel.



3) Start a new topic
To start a new topic Look for the two buttons shown above on the top right of your page. The new topic button will open up a new page for you where u can start the new topic.
On this new page u can design your new topic. You can fill up the topic title and description. You must be carefull while deciding the title of your topic. Cauz unless and untill you are in the a specific group you cannot change the title.
But if somewhere in the future you need to chnage the title then you can request MODS/ADMIN @ Shaurya'Z for a topic title change either through shoutbox or through PM.



4) Start a poll
Starting a poll is almost similar to creating a new topic. Whats different here is that you have to provide the options for which thw viewers will vote. How your poll will function and look like to the viewers in explained above in the What is a poll section. You can create a new poll by clicking on the new Poll button shown above on the top right of your page.

5) Reply in a topic
There are two ways of replying in a topic. Quick Reply and Add Reply
Quick Reply
This is the simplest way to add reply in a topic. Just enter the thread in which u want to reply. On the bottom right of your page u'll find four buttons,
Click on the QUICK REPLY button. A Text box will open up in the same window at the bottom. Just fill up what you want to say and click on add reply. You are done.

Add Reply
This method of replying is a bit time consuming. When you click on the button Reply a new window opens up which has all the formatting and extra similies options which are absent in case of Quick Reply.
Just add whatever u want, format it accordingly and then submit post.
You are done.


8) Post images
Posting images in your topics is a very common task. And believe me it's very easy too. All you have to do is to go to the site

www.imageshack.us

Upload your images there. They will provide you with many options once your image is uploaded. Like link for a forum, link for a thubnail, for a website, for sharing with your friends etc. What you have to do is just upload the image by clicking on the browse button.
